Like a Flower in the Desert

Like a flower in the desert
A child came unto me
Adorned with lace, a tiny face
My heart was filled with glee.

Lots of toys and teddy bears
Were strung along the hall
A cup of tea and make believe
A world of baby dolls.

Ribbons here and lipstick there
Our little girl grew tall
Times now spent with daughter
Were growing very small.

Nice young man with shiny car
Takes her to the prom
One day soon, a honeymoon
No time left for mom.

Her wedding day, a lovely dress
With school days far behind
A baby filled her idle days
And brought new life to mine.

Like a flower in the desert
A grandchild came to me
With tiny face, adorned with lace
My heart is filled with glee.
